Have you ever been to a scrapbook weekend getaway?  Whether you are signing up with girlfriends, or going it alone to truly escape the world, a scrapbook weekend retreat is a T R E A T !

The local businesses, below,  provide the opportunity to experience a getaway within a short distance.  With gas prices increasing, it is nice to know that there are alternatives close to home to help keep travel costs down.

Each of these businesses offers a unique experience.  The amenities, cost, offerings, food and workspace are different at each one.  Read carefully and research the linked websites before choosing where you would like to go and what dates are available.  Do not hesitate to contact the hostess for more information.

Most retreats are Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon for individuals and/or small groups.

Some ladies like to go as a group on an annual or semi-annual basis.  It can be a girlfriend bonding experience.  Some ladies like to return to the same retreat while others like to try new places.  Pets and children are generally not allowed.

Hints:
1. Do reserve your favorite date well in advance as most of the retreats have limited spaces and their calendars fill-up fast..
2. Consider what options [cost or workspace, for example] are most important to you when choosing where you want to go.
3. Tell the hostess if you have any food allergies or special needs.

Relax & Scrap Weekends
With Liann

This weekend retreat occurs at the Royal Copenhagen Hotel, in the heart of beautiful Solvang.  When you aren't cropping, you can shop and walk the town.  Solvang is a lovely Danish community and has a variety of specialty pastries you've got to try - plus, there are some very good wine tasting rooms open in the early evening.  We live so close, but when's the last time you really got to enjoy Solvang?

Liann offers optional workshops and the agenda is designed around the scrappers needs and desires.  The cost is about $295, which includes hotel, meals, crop space and workshops.  Some supplies are available for purchase on site.  Cropping starts at noon on Friday and goes to 10:00pm Friday evening. Saturday morning crop starts at 8:00am and finishes at 10:00pm.  Sunday cropping is from 8:00am to noon.  A few spaces are still available for the July 2008 event.

Share a room with a friend and have your own tv and maid service.  Enjoy the privacy and comfort of your own in-room bathroom.

The workspace includes...[tba]

The traditional welcome reception on Friday afternoon is a "High Tea."  An Italian dinner follows later Friday evening.  Saturday includes a catered Danish lunch, followed by a Santa Maria style bar-be-que dinner later that evening.  Sunday brunch is served in the garden.

Garden Spa Scrapbooking
With Marguerite

This house near Nipomo is dedicated, B&B style, to the scrapbook getaway experience.  Each bedroom has a decorated theme. There are no tv's in the bedrooms. A tv is available next to the dining room with dvd movies (no cable access as of this writing).  Bathrooms are shared with weekend guests.  There is a covered hot tub in the backyard available to 10:00pm.  The backyard is being re-landscaped while the front and side yards make for beautiful scenery from the cropping room.

The workroom is a large living room just off the front door entrance.  All extraneous furniture has been removed and there are ten workspaces available.  The individual workspace is a full table with shelf, Ott light, drink holder & trash bag (connected to table), plus a padded chair.  There is plenty of natural light in this window-filled room. Additional lighting is available at night and you can crop all night if you want to.

The weekend menu changes quarterly. Guests sit down in the decorated dining room at the appointed time and are served portions prepared by the hostess.  Snacks and beverages are available as desired.  There is a small store next to the workroom with a variety of basic supplies and a free crop swap basket.

This retreat accomodates up to ten guests.  A separate bedroom is dedicated to spa massage services, available by appointment.  A welcome reception is held in the atrium on Friday afternoon.

* Note:  At this writing, Marguerite is opening up for crop day events during the month of August for one-day getaways.

Sand, Surf & Scrap
With Dorothy

Dorothy rents a house in Cayucos on the hill, overlooking the ocean.  You can walk to the beach and on the beach.  Marketed as affordable and pampering, Dorothy cooks a variety of meals and offers them buffet-style to each guest.  The dining room table decor is usually the hot-topic at mealtime.  In addition to weekend dates, Dorothy sometimes extends her offerings to the Thursday before or Monday after.  If interested, you should ask her about the possibilities.

The workroom is a small livingroom with living room furniture.  Not all tables have a view. Guests share a table and have a drink/trash holder, light, shelf and executive-style chair.  There is natural lighting.  Parking is tight and bedrooms (and beds) may be shared with your friend.  There are several balconies, one of which is used for the welcome reception on Friday afternoon.

Massage appointments are available and the massage is performed in one of the bedrooms.

Her weekend dates fill up fast and it is not too early to book for Spring 2009. See Dorothy's website for more information at:
